Roofs, Sheathing and Vacuums

There’s an issue with the pitched roof part of the house (no issues with the flat roofs (so far)). It needs more support – most likely in the form of structural steel. This issue is trying. Instead of many paragraphs describing the background of this problem, we’ll just wait for the pretty pictures that come with a successful resolution.

On the upside, more than 60% of the sheathing is up, so the house is really taking shape now.

On the super-upside, the men folk of the family installed pipes for the central vac this weekend. Not familiar with central vacuums? Click here for a list of their advantages.

Thanks to many foster dogs, a couple of cats and fairly messy humans, this family went through three upright vacuums in a ridiculously short amount of time. In case you’re wondering, living with a broom and a shop vac long-term is not recommended. This central vac might be more loved than the roof over our heads.

  1. two thing, having built a house and run into these things: check with your insurance co. we put a steel beam in our house to support an 8-person spa (don’t ask!). it’s actually an insurance increase since in a fire the beam will twist in the heat even if the area isn’t burned so it would have to be replaced.
also, had a central vac, loved it. bought the extra “turbo” head. you’ll need it for the animal hair.
